Home Décor on a Budget

Home Décor on a Budget

As a newlywed, decorating a home can be overwhelming. There is furniture to buy, walls to decorate and windows to treat. Doing it all at once is usually not possible for a newly married couple, except for those that are thrifty enough to do so on a budget. Decorating your new home on a budget takes a little creativity, but in the end, the work will be well worth it.

Find the Most Important Areas

Start by taking inventory of what you have to work with in your home. Do you already have a few objects or pieces of furniture for some rooms? You might even have duplicates of some things if you are coming together for the first time. Take a few minutes to take stock of what you have as well as what you will keep. Then make a list of the items that are still needed and rank them in order of importance. A bed would obviously trump a lavish lamp for the living room, for example. Once you know the areas that you need to focus on, dedicate a portion of your budget to that area first.

Paint your Home

You might be surprised to see how much a coat of paint can do for a room or an entire home. Consider painting each room in your home as a part of your décor plan. Bright, fun colors might be just enough for the rooms that will get little use for now, while neutral colored rooms will need a little more help.

Shop for Accessories

The sky is the limit when it comes to shopping for anything from furniture to the perfect wall hanging. Do not limit yourself to high-end department stores. Think resale shops, antique stores and knockoff stores, such as Nordstrom Rack or similar stores that offer the overstock from their regular stores at a fraction of the price.

Decorating your new home on a budget is easy with these few easy steps. The last step is actually stepping foot into a store. Who knows, you might even be able to decorate your home with things that you already have. It is all about being creative and thrifty to get through those first years of marriage and learning to live on a budget.
