Usually the groom's family pays for the wedding since the bride's family pays for the engagement celebration.  However, some couples decide not to have a huge engagement celebration and so both families split the cost for the wedding.

American tradition maintains that the bride's family pays for the wedding. Howeve, in old Armenian tradition, the groom's family pays for the wedding. Modern Armenian tradition is 'there is no tradition!'. It can be one side pays, both sides pay, or the bride and groom pay (and maybe family help).
