Exception to Indian weddings Armenian weddings must be the lengthiest in process, clustered by many different events on the day of the wedding. The ‘Big Day’ starts out at the groom’s house where family and friends close to the groom’s family gather to begin the celebration by assisting the groom and his family prepare for the day.
Along the guests, the Best-Man and Maid-of-Honor also attend who are the main ‘gate keepers’ of the day to walk the couple through the journey on their ‘Big Day’. The Best-Man and Maid-of-Honor take with them several traditional baskets with various key items for the married couple-to-be. Among these baskets are: A cognac and a chocolate arrangement for the bride’s family and their guests, a flower arrangement and a bridal gift basket for the bride which contains items such as a perfume, purse, lingerie, slippers for the bride to have and to use.
A photographer and a videographer start out their day at the groom’s house to capture the initial celebration into the ‘Big Day’. It is a wonderful gathering and a great opportunity for the groom to spend the early hours of the ‘Big Day’ with close family and friends.
After dancing and enjoying some nice Armenian appetizers, well wishes are extended to the family and all head to the bride’s house!
These days, more couples are following the American tradition of meeting one another at the ceremony location. Still Armenian families try to keep the old tradition of assisting the bride with the gown so many will skip the mini celebration at the groom’s house and attend the bride’s house to assist the bride with the gown and preparation for the day. And then they all head to the ceremony location to meet the groom who is anxiously waiting for his bride!
